Contest Calendar Series - 2018 South Texas Aux. Championships

Hello Texas Twirl Fans!

Who else has not been able to get anything done the last two days because they are too busy watching all the videos and the live feed from the WFNBTA World Championship occurring this week in Norway? Some amazing twirling is going on! Plus, we are so psyched to see UTSA Feature Twirler, Michael Lopez, and Baylor Golden Girl Captain, Adaline Bebo, representing Texas and the USA on the World Stage!

Now, time to jump in to our last post for the month of March. Can you believe it will be April on Sunday? Wow! Two great contests coming up. We have already passed the deadline for one of them, but you still have time to get in for the next one. I am especially excited about this one because it is being held at my High School! If you see me walking around like I am having crazy flashbacks, it is because I have not been inside those walls for more years than I care to mention, but I can tell you, it is a great facility!

Today's Contest Calendar Series will be discussing the 2018 South Texas Auxiliary Championships.

*DEADLINE SATURDAY* IT'S NOT TOO LATE!!! Please note that the deadline for this competition is SATURDAY, March 31st. You must have your entries postmarked by this date. Click here to download the entry form. For more information, please contact the directors at TexasGems.BatonTwirlers@yahoo.com.

Why: The Directors of this contest pride themselves on hosting a fun-filled fiesta themed twirling competition. Hosted in the middle of San Antonio's fiesta season, they hope the contestants and their families can enjoy a tradition that is near and dear to their hearts.

CONTEST HASHTAG: #fiestacuptwirl2018
For this event we strongly encourage our Texas twirlers to utilize the hashtag #fiestacuptwirl2018 when posting photos of this competition on social media. Shout out to Stephanie McBurnett, Makayla Wood, and Twirl ATX for utilizing the hashtag from the 2017 event!

Highlighted Event: At this competition they offer a "Fiesta Cup"! This special event consists of the top 2 twirlers in each age division (Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels) competing in a twirl-off! The Advanced Fiesta Cup is a perpetual (traveling) award which will feature each winner's named engraved on the plate.

Team Texas at Twirl Mania Part 2 - Lambert, McBurnett, & Wood

Hello Texas Twirl Fans!

We hope everyone is excited for the upcoming long weekend. Do you have any fun Easter weekend plans? We love seeing all the pics of the twirlers dressed up or posing in the bluebonnets. If you take any cute bluebonnet pictures in twirling costumes, send them our way and we may share them for an upcoming #twirlertuesday post on our Facebook & Instagram accounts!

As we promised last week, today we have the Part 2 of the Team Texas at Twirl Mania posts. Click Here to see Part 1 featuring the ladies from Texas Touch of Class that attended the event. The Annual Twirl Mania International Competition was held over President's Day Weekend in mid-February. Texas had some fantastic representation at this event. After seeing some of their wonderful pictures posted on social media, we knew it was blog post time!

Today we get to meet three more young ladies that attended. One from the Mickey's Majorettes and two from the Texas Gems... Kaylynn Lambert, Stephanie McBurnett, and Makayla Wood!

Kaylynn Lambert

Kaylynn, who lives in The Woodlands and is coached by Patti Mickey, competes in the Advanced 14 year old division. She is most proud of winning the Advanced Basic Strut "Mousecar" for the highest Advanced Basic Strut score for all ages, earning a first place in her School Solo, 2nd place in her Advanced Solo, and 3rd place in Advanced Dance Twirl 13-16. Other notable placements included 4th in Advanced X-Strut 14-15, 5th in Miss Photogenic 13-16, 6th place in the Advanced Miss Twirl Mania 14-15 Pageant, 6th place Advanced Best Appearing 14-15, 6th place Advanced Military Strut 14-15, 6th place Advanced 2 Baton 14-15, 11th Advanced 3 Baton 14-15, and 17th Overall Junior Gold Invitational 13-16 (which was an invite only event!).

Stephanie McBurnett

Stephanie, who lives in San Antonio and is a Texas Gem taught by Major Margaret Mann, competes in the Intermediate 16 division. She is the most proud of placing 5th in the Intermediate 16-18 Miss Twirl Mania Pageant! Stephanie brought home 7 medals and a plaque by placing in the Top 10 of her events. She won her favorite award of Photogenic (which her mom says she practices for daily!) and received a nice Disney Frame! Her favorite part about Twirl Mania though is always getting to spend time with her fellow Texas Twirlers!

Makayla Wood

Makayla, who lives in San Antonio and is a Texas Gem taught by Heather Hayden, competes in the Intermediate 16+ division and attended Twirl Mania for the first time! She is the most proud of finishing Top3 in her Novice 2 Baton, which she achieves while performing with an upper respiratory infection. Other notable placements included 6th place in Auxillary Show, 9th place in High School Solo, and 13th place in Beginner Three Baton!

Contest Calendar Series - 2018 Spring Fling Twirling Competition

Hello Texas Twirl Fans!

Time to get ready to get back out on that competition floor. Make sure to keep your eyes on the entries due for the March competitions as they are coming up quick, this contest especially! Today for our Contest Calendar Series we will be discussion the 2018 Spring Fling Twirling Competition.

*DEADLINE MONDAY* It is not too late!!! Please note that the deadline for this competition is Monday, March 26th. You must have your entries postmarked by this date. Click here to download the entry form. For more information, please contact the contest director at vickiray911@charter.net.

Who? what? When? Where? Why?
Who: Contest Director, Vicki Ray, and Contest Host, the V.R. Eaton Sapphires Drill Team.
What: 2018 Spring Fling Twirling Competition
When: Saturday, April 7th, 2018. Doors open at 7:30 am. Contest begins at 8:30 am.
Where: V.R. Eaton High School, 1350 Eagle Blvd, Haslet*, Texas 76052
*PLEASE Note: Your GPS may locate the HS in Fort Worth, not Haslet, but the zip is the same.

Why: The Spring Fling Competition is a great NBTA contest that serves as a perfect time to jump back in to competition after the Southwest Regional Championship. Contestants from all over Texas, as well as other states, will join us April 7th to compete in front of licensed NBTA judges.
Facility Note: VR Eaton High School is the same location where the 2016 NBTA Southwest Regional competition was held. Most of the pictures included in this blog post are from that competition to show the facility. The school is very new with wonderful facilities including plenty of bleacher space, super high ceilings, and great practice gyms. (Above = competition gym. Below = practice gyms and gym entrance).

CONTEST HASHTAG: #springflingtwirl2018
For this event we strongly encourage our Texas twirlers to utilize the hashtag #springflingtwirl2018 when posting photos of this competition on social media.

History of this Event: The Spring Fling contest is a long-standing Fort Worth tradition. The only thing new is the location. Last year was the first time to use this facility for the 2016 NBTA Southwest regional competition and working with the V.R. Eaton Sapphires Drill Team was seamless. They are a group of hard working young ladies.

Unique Feature: The awards for this event are very nice and include tiaras, trophies, and banners, as well as great Spring Fling medals. This contest will not have a formal awards presentation. All awards will be posted due to the number of contestants and because the director recognizes that some parents have a long drive home, and we want everyone to have a safe trip.

Any Last Comments: This contest has consistently been concluded by 5:00, and we will try our best to do the same this year. Hooray for an efficient contest!
