Hurricane Harvey Help for #TeamTexas

Hello Texas Twirl Fans!

I am sorry for the lack of blog posts the past week. I have so many things to post about, but following Hurricane Harvey and the havoc it created in our great State has been heart breaking, it has been hard to think of thing else, and I know we are all super concerned for our coastal Texas Twirling Family.

There are many ways to help those on the coast through donations, and we have listed at the bottom of this post several great, reputable organizations that are on the ground in the affected areas and are helping to raise money and collecting item donations for those affected by this historic event.

While helping as many people as possible is always the goal, our focus in this blog is on our Texas Twirling Family. Many people have reached out to the Blog to ask how our coastal twirlers faired in the storm, and what we can do to directly help them. Luckily, as far as we are aware, all the baton twirlers and their families in Texas are safe. However, there are many who had their houses flood, or property damaged between the high winds and the excessive rain. #TeamTexas wants to bond together and help our Texas Twirling Family directly with specific needs and support.
In order to do this, we are asking any Texas Twirler, Texas Twirling Family, or Texas Twirling Coach that may need help (or knows someone who needs help but may be too shy or proud to ask) with absolutely anything, to please reach out to this blog so that we can help! No need is too small, too big, or too specific. Had your house flood and need help replacing things either monetarily or through donations? Let us know! Lose a jazz shoe, costume, or your batons? Let us know! Need some new school supplies? Clothing donations? A place to stay? A ride somewhere? Donations to help cover a hotel room, missed wages, or vehicle repairs? Let us know!

Over the course of the next week, as any requests come in, we will be posting them (anonymously) on the blog and asking this Community to come together and try to fulfill as many of these needs as we can. There may be a Go Fund Me or other collection site incorporated with these requests for collecting monetary donations, but instead of just taking a general collection without specific direction, we felt this would help ensure our Texas Twirl Families receive the direct support they need with a defined goal.

Please let us help! If you would like to reach out to the blog to make a request for yourself or another member of our community, please email texastwirlcontact@gmail.com or text 512-848-7426. These direct messages will only be seen by me, and will be posted anonymously unless the requestor wishes to have their name attached to the request.

We look forward to seeing our community come together and finding out the best ways to help our Texas Twirl Family! Let us know if you have any questions, please remember to keep Texas in your thoughts and prayers as those affected by the storm try to return to their lives begin to recover.

Twirler for a Day 2017 - UT Permian Basin

Hello Texas Twirl Fans!

We are back! After a brief hiatus following a great AYOP week, we are ready to jump back on the Texas Twirler news and get everyone caught up. While competition season is on pause until November (check out the updated www.texastwirl.com/contests.html to see the schedule for upcoming Texas contests and camps), the twirling community is still very busy gearing up for our favorite time of the year... field twirling season!

It is so exciting to see so many new twirlers hitting the field in Texas this Fall. If you would like to check out an updated list of twirlers in Texas, it can be found at www.texastwirl.com/twirlers.html. If you or your child/student twirls for their school at any level, and they are not on this list, please email texastwirlcontact@gmail.com so we can get them added ASAP!

Now... on to one of the most fun parts of this season for non-field twirlers.. the Twirler for a Day programs! These programs are so much fun for any twirler wanting to one day twirl in college. Our first Twirler for a Day program is coming up FAST, so check your calendar, get this date cleared, and get signed up today!

The University of Texas Permian Basin Falcon Marching Band will be holding their High School Band Day on Saturday, September 2nd. Band students, Twirlers, Colorguard, and Dance Teams, grades 9-12, are invited to come perform along-side the UTPB Falcon Marching Band in the stands and during our halftime production, “Audience Sing-Along: Falcon Style”, which will feature the music of the Beastie Boys, B-52’s, Def Leopard, Bon Jovi, and the Beatles.

For more info and to register, visit the High School Band Day Registration Page, or contact the Director, Clayton Harris, at harris_c@utpb.edu or Twirling Coach, Marlene Torres, at babeswithbatons@aim.com.

Also, make sure to "Save the Date" for the UTPB Falcon Twirlers Clinic that will be held October 8th! More information coming soon on that opportunity, so make sure to check back!

We hope you have enjoyed this blog post. We are always looking for great new stories about Texas twirlers. Do you have an idea or some information we could use to help highlight our sport? Contact us at texastwirlcontact@gmail.com and we would love to hear more about it.
