Friday Night Lights Feature - The Woodlands High School

Hello Texas Twirl Fans!

We are BACK and SOOO ready for Football Season. Tonight those Friday Night Lights turned back on in stadiums all over Texas, and with that comes the sights and sounds of football teams, marching bands, and our favorite, lots of talented baton twirlers!

Each season this blog likes to get to know some of these awesome twirlers a little better by learning about them and their experiences. We will be meeting a new High School twirler each Friday through the season with the Friday Night Lights Features, and discovering more about our Texas Collegians with the Collegiate Twirler Spotlights during the week. Make sure to follow us at facebook.com/twirlingiscatchingtx or on Instagram @twirlingiscatchingtx for lots of live content and Insta-story take overs by some of your favorites.

To kick of the season we are starting with a wonderful twirler that is starting her Junior year. Our first Friday Night Light’s Feature of the season is The Woodlands High School Feature Twirler, Kaylynn Lambert!

Kaylynn has had an amazing few months in the twirling world. In May she was named an Outstanding Performer for the Texas State Solo & Ensemble Contest for the second year. Then, at AYOP 2019, Kaylynn made the Junior National Majorette Semi-Finals, the Solo & X-Strut Finals, and placed 8th in the Junior Miss Majorette of America Pageant. Wow! That is quite a summer.

Now, Kaylynn is back at The Woodlands High School and ready for this coming football season. The Highlander Band is very well known Nationally as being a very high ranked marching band in the Bands of America Circuit. They are multi-time National Finalists, and always put on an amazing show. It is a huge honor to get to twirl with the TWHS Band, a position Kaylynn re-tries out for early each summer.

There are many parts of being in the Highlander Band that she enjoys. Kaylynn tell us that her very favorite moment of field twirling was that very first game she twirled with the Highlander Band. “It was a whole new experience aside from competition”.

She also enjoys getting to lock pinkies and sing the school song at the end of each game with some of her favorite people. The Band, of course, loves having twirlers, too! Kaylynn tells us “before and after rehearsal the low brass section loves to play with my batons”. Can we say future twirler/brass duet?

Now that we learned a little about Kaylynn’s experiences at TWHS, let’s learn more about her!

Kaylynn Lambert, Junior
Competition Level: Advanced 16+

Kaylynn has been twirling for 11 years! She started out with Nancy Eisenhauer in Corpus Christi, but when her family moved to The Woodlands, she joined the Mickey’s Majorettes where she is coached by Patti Mickey and Kayli Mickey McIntosh.

She is the most proud of winning the 2019 Junior Miss Majorette of the Southwest pageant. Her favorite competition trick is any kind of low flip, and her favorite field trick is a toss cartwheel to the front. After high school, Kaylynn hopes to attend a big university in the SEC and eventually get in to Medical School.

Fun Facts!
Favorite Color - "I don’t have one favorite, but I like the combination of white and blue (any blue)"
Favorite Movie - Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Favorite Music - “I mostly listen to alternative music, but I love country music as well"
Favorite Quote - “I talk a lot, so I’ve learned to tune myself out” - Kelly Kapoor from The Office

Most Inspired By: “I’ve always been inspired by Caroline Carothers because she puts on the best show and is super talented”. (We totally agree, and if you do too, make sure to follow the blog on Instagram @twirlingiscatchingtx as Caroline will be taking over our Instastory Saturday from her first game as the new University of Texas Feature Twirler!)

What does she do when she isn't twirling? “Tons of homework or I am out with my friends”.

Something you may not know about her: “I chopped the end of my middle finger of when I was 4”. Yikes!

Best Advice from her Coach: “Mrs. Mickey once told me when I was really scared that ‘The judges want you to do your best and hope to see you succeed. Not the other way around’”. Great advice!

Favorite Twirling Moment: “Getting to twirl at the World Showcase in Epcot for the Twirl Mania Gold Invitational as a 10-12 year old”.

Kaylynn says she has learned a lot of things from twirling, but most important is the value of loving what you do. “I’ve learned that to be successful you have to have fun. Being a high school and a competitive twirler takes a lot of time in the gym but it’s the best 4 years ever as long as you enjoy it”.

We asked Kaylynn what she will miss the most when this marching season is over and she told us "the thing I will miss the most is just getting to be with my band all the time and seeing my friends. The last game of the season is always so, so sad”.

Thank you so much for being our first interview of the season Kaylynn! We wish you the best of luck tomorrow night during your first football game of the year, and we hope you have an amazing season.

Go Highlanders!
